Active Holidays
Malta offers various interesting possibilities for activity holidays. Most activities in this segment can be enjoyed in different difficulty levels, something is on offer for every taste, be it some country walks for those who just want to have a day off the beaten tourist tracks or some abseiling and rock climbing for the ones looking for the real adventure.
Walking Tours
Malta’s beautiful landscape in the rural areas of the island can be explored at a tranquil pace whilst enjoying some of the cultural highlights such as the Punic Tombs or the Victoria Lines in the northern part of the island. For those who travel under their own steam, without a guide, the Malta Tourism Authority has set up some walking trails.
Mountain Biking
Even though Malta doesn’t have mountains there is still the opportunity to go on an adventurous mountain bike tour. Malta and Gozo offer some attractive cycling routes. These routes vary from scenic routes for beginners up to more technical routes for the more experienced cycler. Cycle guides can be found at Maltese stationeries and book shops.
Water sports
The activities in and on the water are diverse in Malta and the offer of different suppliers is big. Snorkelling is a lot of fun in the crystal clear blue water of the ocean but if that isn’t enough one can go on one of the several diving experiences offered around the island cause Malta is among one of the best diving sites in the Mediterranean Sea. Of course swimming is a great option as well to spend an active day but it doesn’t stop there – the Maltese winds offer exciting opportunities to try wind surfing or even sailing.
And if this is still not enough activity for you try fun-water-sports which can be found on almost every beach in Malta. Speedboat or Jet-Ski-rental, parasailing or banana riding guarantee a lot of fun.
Abseiling and Rock Climbing
The rocky coastlines of Malta, Gozo and Comino with their stunning views are the perfect location for abseiling. This is an adventure for the whole family since there are also sites where children have the chance to try their best.
For the enjoyment of Rock Climbing you can find about 1300 rock climbing routes on the three islands which offer many different styles of climbing such as sport climbing or deep water soloing. Abseiling and Rock Climbing can be practised the whole year round because of the mild winters in Malta.
